You have to let the process make the painting
(Duncan de Kergommeaux)
Initial consultation
If you had time to look at moolee moolee’s portfolio, then the next step is to contact Kim by phone or email to discuss your project. Sometimes an estimate can be given without seeing the space, but usually the artist requests a tour of your home or business. Initial appointments are free of charge. During the first visit you will be asked about your life style, tastes, preferences and what you envision for your child. It would be a good time at this meeting to mention your budget. If you would like to proceed to the design phase of the work, a non-refundable deposit of 50 $ is normally requested to cover planning and preparation. When the final estimate is given, this deposit will be deducted from the total amount owed.
Proposal and estimate
Based on an analysis of your needs, we will meet again to discuss a design concept. This preliminary verbal and visual presentation includes rough sketches, printed materials, time schedules and a price estimate. With your feedback, we discuss adjustments, and get ready to proceed.
Conceptual drawing
For large projects, usually involving an entire room, moolee moolee will present you with a detailed final sketch that will incorporate all the design elements we discussed, taking into consideration the placement of furniture. Sometimes clients want to modify their final design, which is fine, but another sketch cannot be provided to incorporate these changes unless the client is willing to pay for it.
Let the painting begin!
If your walls are already freshly painted, then we will try to incorporate a mural into the existing colour scheme. The mural, however, should be painted on a primed wall (see About the Paints) with two coats of an acrylic dispersion ground or primer. The preparation can be done at a reasonable price by moolee moolee before the job begins.
Once the preparation work is done, the painting begins. The initial layering process of paint does not always look pretty, but as the colours come together and details are added, the walls seem to take on a life of their own. Within a week, a mural can be in full progress or already completed. When a date is set to begin, the aim is to work consistently to complete the room.
Normally, for large projects spanning more than a few days, an advance of about 20% of the total cost is requested to cover the purchase of materials. Another down payment of 30% of the final price is due when half the mural has been completed. The balance or full payment in cash must be handed over to the artist upon completion of the project, that is, on the last day of work.
